38% of Facebook / Instagram users signed up under age 13

January 23, 2019

Despite Facebook claims that it is identifying and shutting down accounts on Facebook and Instagram of those under 13, a recent article in the UK Sun newspaper on 21st January 2019 says “Internal staff messages reveal how Facebook makes money from vulnerable and under-age users”.

MOBOPINIONS decided to see how far the age sign up abuse goes and asked over 2,000 Facebook/ Instagram users, under the age of 25, in America and the United Kingdom (a <3% margin of error) , if they lied about their age when they opened their account? 38% said YES they did. The poll was run on Android and Apple devices in over 450 different apps.

MOBOPINIONS has established a reputation for accessing the opinions of mobile users who do not typically answer surveys. They use a unique technology that is based around a proprietary mobile survey research platform, that reaches over 1.8 billion monthly respondents, in 190 countries, within thousands of existing apps on smartphones and tablets.
